Rediscovering Rioja

Wine Spectator highlighted Marqués de Riscal in the story, “Rediscovering Rioja,” following reviewer Alison Napjus’ recent visit to Spain’s iconic wine region.

The feature explores Rioja’s evolution and enduring global appeal, spotlighting Riscal as a benchmark producer shaping its legacy through tradition and innovation. The article details Riscal’s deep Bordeaux connections, tracing back to 1860 when the winery constructed its historic cellars in Elciego and brought in French winemakers to define its house style.

Technical Director Luis Hurtado de Amézaga shared how this move was inspired by an American importer’s push for a more structured, modern Rioja.
