California Rhône Legends Converge for Historic Tasting

In a September 5, 2025 writeup for the Santa Barbara Independent, wine writer Matt Kettmann describes the coming together of California Rhône legends for a landmark tasting at the University Club in Santa Barbara. The six-person panel, hosted by VINTUS Vice President Patrick Will, comprised of pioneering winemakers and viticultural stalwarts. With wines spanning back to the 1980s, the group explored 25 venerable white Rhône-style bottlings, including E. Guigal’s 2022 Château de Nalys, 2007 and 2020 Ermitage Ex Voto Blancs, 2021 St. Joseph Blanc, and 2022 Rotem and Mounir Saouma Magis.

Kettman highlights Will and VINTUS as having earned a place of close kinship with the Rhône’s great families, including the E. Guigal dynasty, and offers a thoughtful writeup of the tradition and innovation to be found in Rhône-style bottlings from around the wine-growing world.
