Valentine’s Day Gift Guide: the Top Champagnes Under $100

Forbes contributor Joseph Micallef highlighted Champagne Bollinger Special Cuvée in a story focused on great champagnes for Valentine’s Day. He begins with a brief history of how Champagne garnered its association as a romance wine of sorts – sharing anecdotes about how France’s “Louis XV was famous for plying his ‘Official Chief Mistress,’ Madame de Pompadour, one of his many paramours, with copious quantities of Champagne,” to how James Bond “was as deadly with a bottle of Bollinger as he was with his Walther PPK,” among others.

One of the last theories Micallef shares that adds to the allure of Champagne is that “the aroma of Champagne mimics female pheromones.” As far as the recommended wines go, he elaborates on Special Cuvée’s blend and winemaking and adds, “it has a deep, rich, full-bodied flavor offering crème brûlée, lemon curd, baked stone fruit, toast, roasted nuts and a hint of smoke. A Champagne classic.” Read the full story HERE

Bollinger is one of the rare Grande Marques that’s still family owned. Known for its rich, elegant and polished style of Champagne, their outstanding wines are the result of rigorous attention to detail and incredibly labor-intensive practices that few houses are willing to undertake. Underscoring its excellence, Bollinger has remained British secret agent James Bond's Champagne of choice since 1973.
