Antonio Galloni of Vinous Media writes of his phenomenal time at the Country Music Hall of Fame for clashing of wine, guitars, and country music. Although playing a range of antique guitars with Axel Heinz, winemaker at the legendary Masseto, was a thrilling experience, the real highlight of the weekend was a complete retrospective tasting of the legendary Masseto. Galloni reflects that “A complete retrospective of Masseto is not the sort of thing that happens every day. First made in 1986 as Merlot dell’Ornellaia, Masseto has gone on to become one of the most highly sought-after wines in the world.”
Steve and Pam Taylor, two of the biggest supporters of the Nashville Wine Auction, generously donated nearly all of the bottles for this tasting, with the estate adding a few of the harder-to-find vintages. The sheer amount of wine called for innovative thematic flights. Instead of serving the wines chronologically, wines were grouped by theme and then presented.
