Rock-star Sommelier Keith Goldston MS on Decero Malbec

The Houston Chronicle interviews Master Sommelier Keith Goldston about his new home at Tilman Fertitta’s Mastro’s Steakhouse and Post Oak Hotel. With his new posting, Goldston presides over the Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning cellar worth nearly $4 million. In speaking of the legendary cellar, Goldston picked three wines — out of some 3,500 — that spoke the loudest to him in terms of both high quality and excellent value. Included in this shortlist was the 2016 Decero Malbec Remolinos Vineyard Agrelo.

Goldstone notes that, “As sommeliers, we are constantly looking for value — and this single-vineyard malbec from Mendoza belongs in the Sommelier Hall of Fame for always over-delivering. It comes from a winery built from scratch with the sole purpose to make some of Argentina’s best wines. It’s big but smooth, ripe but not sweet and showcases both red and black fruits — the answer if you are unable to decide between a pinot and a cab. As a bonus, it’s an awesome pairing with barbecue.”
